A.
ELIGIBILITY
1. To be eligible for consideration, an applicant
must have at least 25 percent of Philippine parentage and
must be working towards a Bachelor of Science degree in one
of the following curriculum:
a.
Architecture
b. Engineering
c. Landscape Architecture
d. Planning and Urban Design
e. Computer Science
f. Surveying
g. Construction Management
2.
The applicant must be enrolled in any of the following designated
schools:

B.
APPLICANT'S QUALIFICATIONS
1. The applicant must be at least a sophomore
and a full time undergraduate student in good academic standing
in the disciplines and universities listed above (see Section
A).
2. The applicant must be a U.S. Permanent Resident or U.S.
citizen of Philippine extraction. Proofs of permanent residency
or U.S. citizenship, and Philippine parentage are required.
3. The applicant must have a GPA of 2.50 or better out of
possible 4.0 GPA for the last 2 consecutive quarters or semesters.

C.
SELECTION PROCESS
1. Each applicant shall complete and submit a FASAE (SoCal)
Scholarship Applicant Data.
2.
Each applicant shall indicate the names of two personal references,
including the relationship to the applicant, and contact phone
numbers in the Scholarship Applicant Data. Please do not list
relatives or close personal friends as a reference. The Committee
will solicit input from those references
3.
Each applicant shall submit a typewritten Biography of no
more than 2 pages long.
4.
Each applicant shall submit a brief write-up regarding his/her
reason for needing financial assistance (typewritten and maximum
of 1 page).
5.
Each applicant shall submit a 2-page typewritten essay on
the subject selected by the Scholarship Committee. The topic
of the essay will change from year to year. For the 2011 essay
please choose one of the following topics:

With the prevailing unprecedented high unemployment figures, the unpredictability of the economy, the continuously rising costs for consumer goods and energy, the weakening U.S. dollar, the ominous inflationary trends such as the depressed housing market and the changing health care regulations, what steps are you taking to prepare yourself before you enter the uncertain job market when you graduate?
- What is your opinion on the idea for FASAE SoCal Chapter to require each selected Scholarship recipient to voluntarily become a Chapter Associate member within 2 years of his/her graduation, and further participating actively in the Chapter activities? Discuss the rationale for your opinion.
6. Each applicant shall submit proof of his/her GPA for the
last 2 consecutive quarters or semesters. A copy of the official
transcript of records is required.
7. Each applicant will be interviewed by the Scholarship Committee
on subjects that are pertinent to the evaluation of the applicant.
Failure to appear for the interview will result in the applicant
receiving no points under Item D.1.c. below.

SELECTION FACTORS
1. All applications received will be graded on the basis of
the following factors and their respective weighted percentages:

2.
A $1,000 scholarship award will be given to each of the applicants
receiving the highest total scores. In the event of a tie,
it will be resolved by the Committee through a simple voting
process.
3. Decisions made by the Scholarship Committee will be final.

NUMBER AND AMOUNT OF SCHOLARSHIPS
1.
For 2011, the scholarship amount will be a one-time award
of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) to the applicant
receiving the highest total score. At the sole discretion
of the Scholarship Committee and depending upon the number
of applicants and need for financial assistance, the next two runner-ups
may also receive prize
monies.

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Download the Scholarship Applicant Data from the FASAE
SoCal Website (http://www.fasaesocal.org);
open it with Adobe Acrobat. Interested applicants
who do not have the ability to print the form may request
a hard copy from any one of the contacts listed under Section
K below.
2.
Complete the Scholarship Applicant Data and submit the following
documents with the application:
- i.
Proofs of permanent residency or U.S. citizenship, and Philippine
parentage.
- ii.
A copy of the official transcript of records for the last
2 consecutive quarters or semesters.
- iii.
Biography (typewritten and maximum of 2 pages).
- iv.
A brief write-up regarding reason for need of financial
assistance (typewritten and maximum of 1 page).
- v.
Essay on the topic of the applicant's choice (see Section
C.5). This write-up shall be typewritten and no more than
2 pages long.
3.
Submit all required documents to:

DUE DATE
1. Submittal packages shall arrive no later than 4:30 PM on
Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at the address above.
2. The interview is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, November 3, 2011, at BERG Power, Inc.'s office in West Covina, CA.
Each applicant will be contacted in the period from October 21st
to November 13th (tentative dates) to schedule and confirm his/her
attendance.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF 2011 WINNER
1. Winners will be announced during the period of November 17, 2011 through November 25, 2011. Winner and runner-ups will be notified by

AWARD OF SCHOLARSHIP
1. Scholarship will be awarded during the FASAE SoCal Christmas Party on Saturday, December 3, 2011. The venue
for the FASAE Christmas party will be announced at a later date.

J.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1.
Scholarship recipient will be automatically included as a
student member for 1 year at no charge to the student. The
recipient will be required to attend at least one General
Membership Meeting and at least one regular Board Meeting.
Board meetings are normally held on the first Thursday of
every month. The schedule of the General Membership meetings will be announced later.
